Mr. Jay Chatterjee MRCOG, DFSRH, PhD (London) is a Gynae-oncology Surgeon

Mr. Jay Chatterjee is a Consultant Gynae-oncologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Guildford) associated with the renowned St Luke’s Cancer Centre. He is a sub-specialist in Gynaeoncology surgery, having done his fellowship at the prestigious West London Gynaeoncology Cancer centre at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. He is also an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London and an honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey.

Mr. Chatterjee offers the entire spectrum of surgical treatments of early and advanced ovarian cancer, robotic and laparoscopic surgery for endometrial and cervical cancer. He also performs fertility-preserving surgery for cervical cancer. He treats Vulval cancer using sentinel node assessment. He manages and treats women with pre-cancers lesions of the uterus, cervix and vulva and has extensive experience in managing women with initial and recurrent presentation of gynaecological cancer. He focuses on advancing the philosophy of upfront radical surgery in ovarian cancer using maximal surgical effort for complete tumour clearance as this has shown to impact patient survival.

Mr. Chatterjee is involved in translational research looking at new novel therapeutic targets in gynaecological cancers. His PhD focussed on an inhibitory T cell pathway, involved in dampening immune responses in ovarian cancer. He has published extensively in his chosen field of specialisation. Mr. Chatterjee’s research interest is aimed at promoting new biomarker discovery and validation in gynaecological cancers. He has published on clinical interventions improving patient outcomes from gynaecological cancers. He is presently working to develop genomic, proteomic and immunomic characterization of tumour, so that novel therapies can be applied as part of personalized cancer care to improve survival from gynaecological cancers.

Mr. Chatterjee has been extensively involved in postgraduate education in the UK and is the course director of the extremely popular MRCOG Part 1 revision course at Imperial College, London. Mr. Chatterjee was also a council member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and sat on numerous educational committees. He has written numerous chapters, books and questions and been invited course tutor for MRCOG courses held in India and Dubai. He has given numerous educational lectures nationally and internationally on gynaecological cancers and how to diagnose them earlier, treat them and improve long term survival from them.
